The DeRidder Fire Department responds to approximately 450 calls per year. Two hundred are emergency in nature and the remaining are public assistance or non-emergency calls. The department runs consist of fire suppression, rescue-extrication, emergency medical services, hazardous materials incidents, emergency standby situations, and numerous types of public assistance calls. Serving the city are 18 career firefighters and a secretary to the Fire Chief utilizing three fire stations and a training center. The department also runs aid to fire protection areas outside the city. Approximate coverage area is eight square miles while serving approximately ten thousand citizens of DeRidder. At this time, the department holds a Class 4 Insurance Rating with hopes of improvement in the near future.
